Nutritional Support for Antidepressant Withdrawal

  • The Great Plains Laboratory, Inc 11813 West 77th Street Lenexa, KS, 66214 United States (map)

William Shaw, Ph.D. and The Great Plains Laboratory, Inc. sponsor "Nutritional Support for Antidepressant Withdrawal", presented by Dr. James Greenblatt on May 4.

Several patients experience a phenomenon known as “Medication Discontinuation Syndrome” while tapering off antidepressant medications. Because antidepressants essentially alter the function and production of the mood-regulating substances in brain, abruptly stopping medications does not allow for the brain to adjust to rapid changes, leading to uncomfortable and sometimes dangerous side effects. The webinar will provide a comprehensive guide to achieve a safe and successful taper. This webinar will also discuss nutritional interventions including essential fatty acids, amino acid precursors, B vitamins, and other trace minerals to minimize medication withdrawal symptoms.

Dr. Greenblatt has treated patients with mood disorders and complex eating disorders since 1990. An acknowledged integrative medicine expert, Dr. Greenblatt has lectured throughout the United States on the scientific evidence for nutritional interventions in psychiatry and mental illness. His books, Answers to Anorexia, The Breakthrough Depression Solution, and Answers to Appetite Control draw on his many years of experience and expertise in integrative medicine while treating patients with eating and mood disorders. Dr. Greenblatt currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer at Walden Behavioral Care in Waltham, MA and serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine. He is also the Founder and Medical Director of Comprehensive Psychiatric Resources, a private psychiatric practice focused on utilizing integrative medicine.
