Patients: TreatmentsThe following statements are intended to provide information about the treatment options that are available based on tests performed at The Great Plains Laboratory, Inc. and are not intended as medical advice. Please seek a qualified health practitioner prior to starting any treatment plan. Tests performed at The Great Plains Laboratory, Inc. uncover a variety of different health conditions including the availability of essential nutrients, amount of oxidative stress and toxicity, and function of biochemical pathways necessary to maintain proper health. Treatment is specific to the abnormality detected in the analysis and may involve dietary changes, supplementation, chelation, detoxification, immunoglobulin infusions, antifungal or antibiotic therapy, homeopathy, or any combination of these. This process of restoring balance to biochemical pathways through nutritive supplementation and detoxification has many names. Biomedical treatment, orthomolecular treatment, integrative medicine, functional medicine, nutrigenomics, environmental medicine and alternative medicine are some of the more common. Understanding the biochemistry behind restorative health involves many factors. Environmental exposures to toxic elements such as air pollution, water pollution, pesticides, industrial solvents, food additives, pharmaceutical drugs, artificial growth hormones, and synthetic hormones (bisphenol A and phthalates) found in plastic products have been identified in the human population at alarming rates. The nutritional value of food needed to supply the body with essential components for detoxification is influenced and often compromised by infertile soils, chemical agents, and prolonged storage. As a result, a population much larger than expected is likely to be depleted of essential components needed to maintain health and wellness. Some speculate that these factors of modern day society are responsible for mutations in the genetics of certain individuals which increase the need for nutritional elements and/or decrease the ability to detoxify certain substances in certain individuals. Others focus on the difficulty of an individual to assimilate foods properly due to immune and microbial imbalances or other health conditions which create an abnormal demand on the body’s resources. While most people maintain average health by simply eating “right”, optimum health and recovery from illness requires attention to the very specific needs of the individual. A wealth of scientific evidence supports nutritive and restorative based treatment. Parents of children on the Autism Spectrum have reported significant improvement based on biomedical therapies and very few adverse reactions have been reported in comparison with the traditional drug therapy. Chronic diseases such as Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease are greatly influenced by environmental factors including nutrition; exposure to environmental chemicals and infectious materials; physical activity; social interactions; education; socioeconomic circumstances; and active intellectual stimulation. Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are associated with nutritional deficiencies which significantly impact the symptoms of the disease. Patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Epilepsy, Cystic Fibrosis, and Rheumatoid arthritis have all shown to respond well to the elimination of foods positive to IgG reactivity (allergy). Patients with Down Syndrome have documented genetic traits which generate certain free radicals, lower zinc levels, and cause deficiencies in certain aspects of immunity. Patients with Tourette’s Syndrome and AD(H)D have reported significant benefits resulting from the restoration of biochemical function through nutritive therapies.
