Toxic Chemical Found in Restaurant Hand
Soap Linked to Psychiatric Illness and Crime

William Shaw, Ph.D., recently published an interesting article in the September issue of the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine. He talks about the fragility of human, whale, and dolphin brains and the reasons why they are so vulnerable to toxic chemicals. Throughout the last century, society has been exposed to unregulated and potentially dangerous chemicals. These toxins are now present in the human brain and may be the cause of or may accelerate mental illnesses.

Dr. Shaw discusses the dangers of chemicals found in antibacterial hand soaps. He became suspicious after having chest pains following exposure to an antibactierial soap at a famous fast food restaurant. The three common chemicals discussed in the article are PCMX, triclosan, and hexachlorophene. Glutathione, naturally found in the body, can detoxify these compounds. Once glutathione has detoxified these compounds it can never be used again and the body becomes more susceptible to toxicity because of a lack of glutathione.

It has taken over 50 years and 50,000 published articles to determine that very small amounts of lead can lead to mental impairment. Due to this research, the government’s acceptable lead exposure has dropped steadily since 1969. The article suggests other toxic chemicals have not been equally examined due to the amount of attention placed on lead. A possible solution to this problem is to study the effects of removing toxic chemicals present in the brains of people with mental health disorders.

Is The Chemical Triclosan In Your Socks?
Dr. Loretta Lanphier, ND, CN, HHP, CH

Go sans triclosan! Avoid this dangerous antibacterial additive that’s now found in many personal hygiene products. Many people don’t realize the best defense against spreading germs is consistent hand-washing with regular soap and warm water. Antibacterial products aren’t necessary and can do more harm than good.

Triclosan was introduced to the market in 1972 and was confined to hospital and health care settings. Triclosan has already been banned or restricted in other countries, including the European Union. In the U.S., however, regulatory agencies have failed to act on this serious public health threat that has mushroomed into a very common chemical ingredient in many products. Not until 2005 did the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) conclude that antimicrobial soaps and sanitizers do not reduce the risk of illness and infection in the home; however, products made with triclosan remain on the market.

Why Your Household Dust is Toxic
Environmental Working Group

Most of the dust in the average home is tracked in from the outside world and can be loaded with toxic chemicals. The Environmental Working Group provides extensive information about what’s in those dust bunnies as well as how to detoxify your living space.

Every home has a little dust -- and its own unique "dust load," based on a variety of factors like where you live, what you cook, if you smoke, the climate, and how many people -- and animals -- live there. Ordinary house dust is a complex mixture of generally yucky stuff -- pet dander, fungal spores, tiny particles, soil tracked in on your feet, carpet fibers, human hair and skin, you name it. It's also a place where harmful chemicals are found. One recent study by the Silent Spring Institute identified 66 endocrine-disrupting compounds in household dust tests, including flame retardants, home-use pesticides, and phthalates.

This Popular Drink May Be Almost as Hazardous
to Your Health as Soda

Dr. Mercola

The Corn Refiners Association is in the process of renaming high fructose corn syrup in an effort to improve public perception of the common food additive. What have they selected as the new and improved name? Corn sugar. We can only assume they want people to believe it is a wholesome, natural product. Don’t fall for their deception! Call it what you want, but high fructose corn syrup is dangerous and it’s found in millions of processed foods.

Dr. Richard Johnson is the chief of the division of kidney disease and hypertension at the University of Colorado. As one of the physicians on the cutting edge of sugar metabolism research today, his focus is on how the overabundance of sugar in the American diet -- particularly fructose -- is causing obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and a number of other health problems.

Fruit juice may be as hazardous to your health as soda

The impact of fructose on your uric acid levels is detrimental. The latest research shows that there is a steady relationship between uric acid levels and blood pressure and cardiovascular risk. Uric acid is an excellent marker fructose toxicity. We strongly recommend everyone to have their uric acid level checked to find out how sensitive you are to frutose.

Dr. James GreenblattWith Dr. Kurt Woeller

Q: What role does glutathione play in chemical detoxification?

A: Glutathione is the body's main defense mechanism against toxicity. It is an antioxidant chemical produced in our cells. Glutathione has many roles; it helps prevent free radical damage from toxins throughout the body, supports the body's immune response, supports effectiveness and sensitivity of the brain to chemicals such as dopamine (a problem in Parkinson's Disease) and serotonin (a chemical responsible for mood and general feeling of well-being), and helps support against heart disease and cancer.

In autism, glutathione reserves are commonly low. This leads to the inability to rid the body of toxins such as mercury and lead. These toxins adversely affect chemicals in the brain that support attention, focusing, and general awareness. Many individuals diagnosed with autism have benefited from glutathione therapy.
